Tier III: Increased intensity & frequency of interventions
with specially trained instructor •Specialized Curriculum w/ trained educator •Smaller Groups •Generally doubles the effort of instruction •Increase ‘progress monitoring’ - weekly •Change interventions (different, more often, longer) •If student is not responding at an acceptable rate–team may decide to evaluate for disability. Tier II: Teaching & small group interventions •Continue to teach general curriculum •Add additional instruction in small group •Increase ‘progress monitoring’ •Adjust interventions (more often, longer, different) •If student is not responding at an acceptable rate – team may decide to increase to Tier III interventions Tier I: Teaching ALL students (based on TEKS) •Evidence/standards-based curriculum •Effective instructional strategies • Evidence-based interventions •Progress Monitoring (screening & benchmarks monitor growth) •identifying struggling students •Environmental changes / adjustments •Differentiate instruction •Talk with prior teachers & parents •Submit concerns to the RTI (aka student services team) |
- RTI is a framework for the systematic approach to provide effective instruction to all students with continuous progress monitoring for the purpose of adjusting instruction as needed for student success providing specific interventions to address specific deficits in learning, to the degree necessary for achievement.
- Struggling students go through the RTI framework to determine if they are able to learn with effective instruction.
•IF a student is not responding adequately after going through the 3 tiers of RTI the RTI team (with the parents) may decide there is need for a full evaluation.
•Students are evaluated to determine IF THEY HAVE A DISABILITY that is adversely affecting their education.
•IF a student is eligible as having a disability, THEN the team decides if the student will benefit from special education services.
